What is the difference between virus and malware?

I have a problem on my computer of it trying to pull up webpages and the command line. I got a virus on my computer yesterday, and my antivirus software detected it and I told it to deny access. Now the command line problem is gone, but the pulling up webpage problem is still there. People are telling me that it is malware, not a virus. So what is the difference between malware and virus|||Malware is any piece of bad software, like viruses, worms, spyware and trojans. So malware and viruses are the same thing.|||Malware and viruses are not the same thing - and that is the reason why you can have the latest, greatest anti-virus software on your PC and still get a nasty malware infection.

|||Malware is an all-inclusive term, intended to include any software or functions normally associated with spyware, adware, viruses, foistware etc. Although some specific files may be designated as "virus" nowadays, the malware coders take advantage of any methods they can to succeed in infecting and misusing the systems of their victims. So a trojan downloader can be used to trick the user into allowing the infection computer access, which then delivers/installs active malware components, and included in these can be files with "virus" functioning of self-replication.

What I read in your request here is that regardless of the designation used, your computer has active infection there which needs to be addressed.

To just repeat what I post in some other requests here, too little info and too complex a scenario to honestly suggest this or that tool or repair here. I would suggest posting a request at an available free infection removal forum to get your system cleaned up. I can either assist you at mine, or you can just yahoo web search "hijackthis free help" or words to that effect to locate one of the locations where you can receive assistance. |||malwares and viruses are the same in the fact that they all cause some harm in your system. the difference is that viruses after doing harm they usually find ways connecting to the internet or others means to infect other pc's. when viruses look for ways to infect other pc's - this slows down your pc, as they hog resources.|||Malware is malicious software a virus is a program.|||most viruses are designed to make destructive damage.
