The problem then becomes when I try to use google to search. I type in a seach, click on the site, get redirected, then the data protection thing comes back up. What am I doing wrong?

|||I was stuck in the same situation as you just a bit ago. Try doing a system restore - it'll delete everything that happened to your computer except for personal programs (it'll delete your virus) depending on the day you want it to go back to.
